Artist's Bio
Photography is my life’s experience of what my eyes and mind see
for that moment. It is an expression of my connection with the beauty of the
natural world. Understanding nature via my visual contexts of color, shapes,
patterns played out in the light and shadows of my prints. My photography
intends to capture objects as I see them, in the hope of portraying a moment of
time in nature's ever changing light of each season.
The final print
is the ultimate statement of a fine art photographer’s point of view. It is my
record of what I see, for that fraction of a second. I open the shutter and
light flows freely establishing a connection between my view of what is before
me (a landscape, a bird) and the print I create for you, the viewer.

Artist’s Statement
Where some see
places and things, I am stimulated by light, form, and movement. Through
photographic expression of landscapes and birds, I can communicate the essence
of what I see.
Once I have identified a promising location, I attempt to
determine optimal conditions, often returning repeatedly to the same location
just as a gardener checks his crops or a lobsterman checks his traps. Sometimes
the composition itself is predetermined by the location, the conditions, or the
subject. I wait until I see something new revealed. I enjoy photographing just
before dawn, continually trying to catch the unique quality of days first light,
or at sunset when I can capture the last moments of light. Each day presents a
chance to visualize and is filled with new combinations of light and color. From
the migrating bird on its passages to the grandest landscape, the natural world
is revealed to me in a rich tapestry of abstract shapes, textures, patterns and
colors.
The camera blocks everything out except what I see and feel
allowing me to focus, like a painter, on the strategical placement of objects
and shades of light. My goal is to have the final print closely match the
original concept created by what I saw through the lens. Images are seldom
manipulated other than for cropping or adjustments made for contrast or light
levels.
The final print is the ultimate statement of a fine art
photographer’s point of view. It is my record of what I see, for that fraction
of a second when the camera’s shutter is open and light flows freely
establishing a connection between my view of what is before me (a landscape, a
bird) the print I create, and you, the viewer.
